It’s a struggle to put food on the table for many families, and that struggle has only increased due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a New York news outlet, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a new law providing guidelines for supermarkets to donate “excess food” to food banks across the state. Now, supermarkets will be required to distribute food nearing the sell-by-date to non-profits or religious organizations that provide free food in their communities. Supporters of this bill believe it will significantly help food banks meet increased food demands due to the pandemic.
